Odoo ships connectors for FedEx, UPS and DHL. If your warehouse is in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dubai, Karachi or Lahore, those are not the carriers on your loading bay. This connects the five that are: Aramex, SMSA Express, Naqel Express, Leopards Courier and TCS.
What it does
- โ Adds each carrier as a delivery method, with its own account details
- โ Quotes a price on the sale order, on the carrier's own tariff
- โ Books the shipment from the transfer, and gets the waybill number back
- โ Stores the label as an attachment on the transfer, PDF or ZPL
- โ Cancels a booked shipment at the carrier and clears the waybill
- โ Puts a tracking link on the transfer that opens the carrier's own page
- โ Books a whole afternoon of transfers in one go, and reports what failed
Cash on delivery
- โ Most traffic on the Pakistani networks is collected on the doorstep, so the amount to collect is part of the booking rather than an afterthought. The tariff carries a flat COD fee and a percentage, and both end up in the quote.
Errors a warehouse worker can act on
- โ Every call goes through one place that owns the timeout, the retries and the error handling. A carrier failure is narrowed to one of twelve kinds, and each one has a sentence that says what happened and what to do about it. Nobody is ever shown raw JSON, a stack trace or an HTML error page from a load balancer.
- โ Retries only happen where a retry can help. A timeout, a 503 or a rate limit is tried again with a growing wait. A rejected address is not, because it will be rejected identically the second time.
The call log
- โ Every attempt is recorded: the request, the answer, the status, how long it took and which attempt it was. Credentials are masked on the way in, so the log can be read by the people who ship without handing them the account password. It is written on its own database cursor, so the record of a failed booking survives the rollback that failure causes. A scheduled action clears entries older than ninety days.
Simulation mode
- โ Every carrier can answer without being called. The simulator prices the shipment from the service tariff and returns an answer in that carrier's own format, including a real label file and a stable waybill number. It also reproduces failures on demand: rejected credentials, a rejected address, a destination outside the network, a rate limit, a timeout, an unreachable host and an unreadable answer.
- โ That is how you set the shipping flow up and train the warehouse on it before the carrier has issued a single credential, and how you reproduce a failure without breaking a live account.
Services and tariffs
- โ A service holds the code that goes on the wire and the tariff behind it: a base charge, a rate per chargeable kilo, a minimum, fuel as a percentage, COD fees and insurance. Chargeable weight is the greater of the scale weight and the volumetric weight, which is how these carriers bill.
Adding a carrier
- โ Each carrier is one class of about two hundred lines. It says where its endpoints are, how it wants the request shaped, and how to read its answer. Validation, pricing, weights, retries, logging, the simulator and the error taxonomy are shared, so a sixth carrier does not touch any of them.
