Odoo Migration and Upgrade Services in the UK

An upgrade is a rehearsal problem. The first conversion is never the one you go live on.

What changes the cost of an Odoo migration or upgrade in United Kingdom

The delivery method is the same everywhere. What moves the number is what this market demands of the system, and how much of that Odoo already covers.

E-invoicing

United Kingdom runs Mandatory e-invoicing for VAT invoices, run over Peppol (no local-language name, the UK operates in English). That is configuration and testing work inside the build, not an afterthought, and it is the item most often left out of a quote.

Payments

6 of the 17 payment options that matter in United Kingdom are not shipped with Odoo, so they need a paid connector or a build. 11 ship in the box.

Shipping

10 of the 14 couriers used in United Kingdom have no Odoo connector. 4 do. Which ones you actually use changes the estimate more than the number of users does.

Gaps in the localization

Odoo's United Kingdom localization does not cover everything. The gaps are listed on the country page and each one is either a build or a bought module.

Payroll

Statutory payroll in United Kingdom has its own rules. Whether Odoo ships a payroll localization for this market decides if that is configuration or development.

Market facts on this page checked on 22 August 2026 by Waqas Riasat, Way4Tech.

Where United Kingdom starts from

A migration in United Kingdom carries 5 native localization modules forward. The 4 custom pieces on top of them is what actually needs re-testing, not the standard modules.

Where we deliver in the United Kingdom

A migration carries no city-specific risk of its own. What decides the work is the modules and the custom code already in place, and that is the same for a business in London as anywhere else in the United Kingdom. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are covered on the same basis.

What odoo migration & upgrade has to satisfy in United Kingdom

The rules that decide how much of this is configuration and how much is a build. Everything below is from our United Kingdom register, checked against a primary source.

Mandatory e-invoicing for VAT invoices, run over Peppol (no local-language name, the UK operates in English) · HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), jointly with the Department for Business and Trade (DBT)

No B2B e-invoicing mandate is in force. Public-sector obligations already exist: UK contracting authorities must be able to receive and process EN 16931-compliant e-invoices, and NHS England requires Peppol.

  • Structured, machine-readable invoice data that the recipient's system can process, not a PDF.
  • Peppol as the core interoperability network, so a four-corner exchange through an access point rather than a filing to a government portal.
  • No real-time reporting to HMRC at launch. The consultation response says real-time reporting will not be implemented in 2029 and would only follow once e-invoicing use is well established.
  • Format choice, phasing and the treatment of legacy EDI are still open. Nothing firm until the Budget 2026 roadmap.
  • Accounting Company Tax Returns should be filed online. The return is due 12 months after the end of the accounting period, and Corporation Tax is due 9 months and one day after the end of the period.
  • Accounting HMRC's free service for filing company accounts and Company Tax Returns closed on 31 March 2026. From 1 April 2026 companies must use commercial software to file annual accounts and Company Tax Returns with HMRC.
  • Accounting Companies House accounts reform now starts in April 2028, not April 2027. From that date all companies must file accounts using commercial software in iXBRL, abridged accounts are removed, small companies and micro-entities must file a profit and loss account, and web and paper filing of accounts closes.
  • Accounting The FRS 102 periodic review amendments apply to accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, with early adoption allowed. They bring in a five-step revenue model based on IFRS 15 and on-balance-sheet lease accounting for lessees based on IFRS 16, with exemptions for short-term and low-value leases.
  • Tax VAT standard rate is 20%. The reduced rate is 5% (for example children's car seats and home energy) and the zero rate is 0% (for example most food and children's clothes).
  • Tax VAT registration is compulsory once total taxable turnover for the last 12 months goes over 90,000 pounds.
  • Tax VAT returns are usually filed every 3 months. The deadline to file online and to pay is one calendar month and 7 days after the end of the accounting period.
Odoo covers in United Kingdom
  • CT600-ready chart of accounts and a VAT100-ready tax structure
  • UK accounting reports and VAT return submission to HMRC through the MTD VAT API
  • Bacs files for paying suppliers and collecting from customers
  • CIS monthly returns to HMRC and CIS deduction reporting
  • Peppol exchange: Odoo runs its own access point and SMP, and the UK is on Odoo's list of countries eligible for Peppol registration
Needs a build here
  • UK payroll. Odoo ships no official UK payroll localization: the payroll localizations documented for v19 are Australia, Belgium, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Jordan, Kenya, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, UAE and the US. The documented UK route is the Employment Hero Payroll integration. RTI submissions, auto-enrolment assessment and statutory payments are not in the standard product.
  • iXBRL statutory accounts. Odoo does not tag accounts for HMRC or Companies House. That stays with the accountant's software, which matters more now that HMRC's free filing service closed on 31 March 2026 and Companies House goes software-only in April 2028.
  • Multi-company HMRC submissions. Only one company and one user can be connected to HMRC at a time, so group filings have to be run in sequence.
  • The 2029 e-invoicing build cannot be scoped yet. Peppol is confirmed as the network but the format, phasing and legacy EDI treatment come with the Budget 2026 roadmap.

5 stages, the same in every market: Assessment, First test conversion, Functional validation, Rehearsal, Cutover and stabilisation. The method does not change by country, so it is written up once rather than repeated here.

Questions we get asked

Can you upgrade us from an old Odoo version?
Yes. The migration service covers the database, the custom modules, attachments and historical transactions, with a test environment for sign-off before cutover. Older versions take longer because more standard behaviour changed on the way, and because third-party modules are less likely to have a successor.
Will we lose data?
No. Conversions run on copies, the original is untouched until cutover, and a full pre-conversion backup is the rollback point. What does happen is that data which was already inconsistent becomes visible, because conversion is stricter than daily use.
Does Odoo have an official localization for United Kingdom?
Yes. Odoo ships 5 native items for United Kingdom, covering the basics of the chart of accounts and statutory setup. 4 areas are still outside that localization and get built or bought separately.
Is e-invoicing mandatory in the United Kingdom?
No B2B e-invoicing mandate is in force. Public-sector obligations already exist: UK contracting authorities must be able to receive and process EN 16931-compliant e-invoices, and NHS England requires Peppol. The United Kingdom e-invoicing page carries the full detail and the sources.
What VAT or sales tax does Odoo have to handle in the United Kingdom?
VAT standard rate is 20%. The reduced rate is 5% (for example children's car seats and home energy) and the zero rate is 0% (for example most food and children's clothes).
Do you work with businesses in London and other parts of the United Kingdom?
Yes. An Odoo migration or upgrade runs remotely by default, and being based in one city inside the United Kingdom does not change the plan or the price. Cities we cover for on-site visits: London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bristol, Liverpool. Regions we cover: England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland. We travel on-site for discovery workshops and go-live week when the engagement calls for it.
