Written for a retail jeweller, a goldsmith's bench and a bullion counter. Everything in the shop is priced off one number, the rate per gram for the day, so that is where the module starts. Runs on Odoo Community.
The rate table
- โ One rate per metal, per purity, per day, with the source it came from
- โ A rate entered at 24K or 999 fine feeds every other purity by fineness, so a 22K price exists the moment the fine rate is entered
- โ A rate can still be entered directly for a purity when the shop quotes a different number for 22K than the fineness ratio would give
- โ The rate is stamped onto a sale line when the line is written, so an old ticket still shows the price it was actually sold at
- โ An optional job copies the last rate forward at the start of the day, so the counter never opens on a blank rate
Jewellery items
- โ Products carry the attributes the trade works with: metal, purity in karat, gross weight, stone weight, net metal weight, making charge either per gram or as a percentage of the metal value, wastage percentage, design code, and the hallmark unique identification number stamped on the piece. Stones set into an item are listed individually with carat, colour, clarity and the certificate that came with them.
Pricing at the counter
- โ A sale line works out its own price:
- โ Net metal weight times the rate for that purity on the day of the sale
- โ Making charge, per gram or as a percentage of the metal value, or a fixed amount for a piece bought in finished
- โ Wastage as a percentage of the metal weight, priced at the same rate
- โ Stone value taken from the stones set in the item
- โ A margin split that shows how much of the ticket is metal, how much is making and how much is stones, because those three behave completely differently
VAT and hallmarking
- โ VAT can be charged on the whole ticket or on the making charge and wastage only, which is how the Gulf treats a jewellery sale
- โ When VAT is on the making charge only, the invoice is split into a metal and stone line and a making charge line, so the tax base on the invoice is the number the tax authority expects to see
- โ Items at or above a set weight refuse to be sold without a hallmark unique identification number recorded
- โ Hallmark centre and date sit on the item, and the assay standard is checked against the purity
Old gold and buy-back
- โ An exchange records what the customer brought in: gross weight, stone weight, the purity they claim and the purity the test actually gave, with the test method written down. Impurity and solder come off as a deduction, the pure weight is what the credit is worked out from, and the shop's buy-back margin comes off the fine rate. A gap between the claimed purity and the tested purity beyond the tolerance has to be explained before the exchange is accepted. The credit lands against a purchase or is settled on its own.
Repairs and custom orders
- โ A job card carries the expected date, the goldsmith it went to, the customer's own metal in, the metal that came back in the finished piece, and the scrap and filings returned. What does not add up is the variance, and a job will not be handed over until somebody has written down where the difference went. Labour and materials are charged and invoiced from the same card.
Approval and memo issue
- โ Goods leave the shop with a customer on approval, with a salesman on a memo, or to an exhibition. Every piece that goes out is listed with its weight and its value at the rate on the day it left. What has come back, what has been sold and what is still out is on the front of the memo. A memo above the value limit needs a manager. Anything past its due date is chased.
Stock by weight
- โ Stock is counted in pieces and in grams. A count sheet takes the book quantity and the book weight, records what was actually on the tray, and prices the difference at today's rate. Any line outside the weight tolerance needs a reason before the count can be closed. That reconciliation is the record that proves nothing has walked out of the shop.
