Odoo Community has no map view. This adds one, and it adds the two things that make a map worth having in the first place: addresses that get geocoded once instead of on every screen refresh, and a route that puts the calls in a sensible order.
Any model on a map
- โ Point a map at any model in the database
- โ Position the pins from a linked contact's address, or from latitude and longitude fields the model already carries
- โ Colour the pins by the value of a field, with a legend
- โ Choose what appears when a pin is clicked
- โ Filter with a domain, so one model can carry several maps
Geocoding that only happens once
- โ Every address that goes to the geocoder is cached against its normalised form, so two hundred contacts in the same office block are one lookup
- โ Addresses that come back empty are cached too, which is what stops a bad address being retried on every run
- โ A contact whose address is edited is put back in the queue automatically
- โ A scheduled action works through the backlog, shipped switched off so nothing calls out until you say so
- โ Uses the provider already configured in Odoo through base_geolocalize
Route planning
- โ Turn a map, or a selection of records, into a visiting order
- โ Nearest neighbour from a starting point, then a 2-opt pass that untangles the crossings a greedy walk leaves behind
- โ Start from the company address, from a contact, or from typed coordinates
- โ Distance for each leg, a running total, and an estimated arrival time
- โ Kilometres or miles, switched at any time without recomputing
- โ A printable route sheet for the driver
Works without the browser
- โ The pins, the colours and the bounding box are all worked out on the server and returned as ordinary data. There is a server-drawn preview of every map, so the module is still useful on a locked-down desktop, in a PDF, or from a script. No CDN is ever contacted, and there is no map tile subscription to buy: with no tile server configured the pins are drawn on a plain background.
