Odoo Migration and Upgrade Services in Canada
An upgrade is a rehearsal problem. The first conversion is never the one you go live on.
What changes the cost of an Odoo migration or upgrade in Canada
The delivery method is the same everywhere. What moves the number is what this market demands of the system, and how much of that Odoo already covers.
Canada has no e-invoicing mandate to clear today. That lowers the build cost now, and it makes the invoicing design worth getting right anyway, because every market on this list that has since mandated one gave businesses months rather than years to comply.
10 of the 16 payment options that matter in Canada are not shipped with Odoo, so they need a paid connector or a build. 6 ship in the box.
10 of the 14 couriers used in Canada have no Odoo connector. 4 do. Which ones you actually use changes the estimate more than the number of users does.
Odoo's Canada localization does not cover everything. The gaps are listed on the country page and each one is either a build or a bought module.
Statutory payroll in Canada has its own rules. Whether Odoo ships a payroll localization for this market decides if that is configuration or development.

Where Canada starts from
A migration in Canada carries 5 native localization modules forward. The 4 custom pieces on top of them is what actually needs re-testing, not the standard modules.
Where we deliver in Canada
A migration carries no city-specific risk of its own. What decides the work is the modules and the custom code already in place, and that is the same for a business in Toronto as anywhere else in Canada. Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec and Alberta are covered on the same basis.
What odoo migration & upgrade has to satisfy in Canada
The rules that decide how much of this is configuration and how much is a build. Everything below is from our Canada register, checked against a primary source.
Canada has no B2B or B2C e-invoicing mandate as of 2026-08-22, and a PDF invoice is still legally fine. E-invoicing only bites in federal procurement and in two Quebec sectors.
- Nothing structured for ordinary domestic B2B trade: no XML, no clearance, no real-time reporting, no QR code, no accredited intermediary.
- Federal government e-invoices are exchanged in UBL format, over the Peppol network, which was introduced in Canada in 2018.
- Records supporting a GST/HST position must be archived for 6 years from the end of the fiscal year, and the system must preserve confidentiality, integrity and availability. Archiving abroad is allowed with conditions.
- Quebec restaurants: a certified sales recording system feeding the WEB-SRM cloud. New businesses registered after 1 November 2023 had to use WEB-SRM immediately; established businesses had until 31 May 2025 to move off a physical SRM.
- Canada is not on the Peppol Authority list, so there is no domestic Peppol governance body or Canadian identifier scheme to register with.
- Accounting Corporations file their balance sheet and income statement with the T2 return using CRA General Index of Financial Information (GIFI) codes, carried on schedules 100 (balance sheet) and 125 (income statement). Design the chart of accounts with a GIFI mapping from day one or the year-end becomes a manual re-coding exercise.
- Accounting There is no government-mandated chart of accounts and no SAF-T style audit file export. Odoo ships its own Canadian chart of accounts with seven account groups: Receivable, Payable, Equity, Assets, Liability, Income, Expenses.
- Accounting Accounting records supporting a GST/HST position must be kept for 6 years from the end of the fiscal year, with integrity and availability preserved.
- Tax GST is 5%. In HST provinces a single combined tax applies instead: 13% in Ontario, 15% in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island, and 14% in Nova Scotia.
- Tax Quebec charges QST at 9.975% on top of the 5% GST. British Columbia and Manitoba charge 7% PST, Saskatchewan 6%. Alberta and the three territories have no retail sales tax. An Odoo setup therefore needs province-driven fiscal positions, not one tax.
- Tax The GST/HST registration threshold is CAD 30,000 of sales to Canadian consumers annually.
- Tax Filing frequency follows annual taxable revenue: annual up to CAD 1.5 million, quarterly from CAD 1.5 million to CAD 6 million, monthly above CAD 6 million. Monthly and quarterly returns are due one month after period end; annual returns three months after fiscal year end.
- Canadian chart of accounts with the standard account groups (Receivable, Payable, Equity, Assets, Liability, Income, Expenses).
- Sales and purchase taxes with provincial variation, plus 13 provincial and territorial fiscal positions (AB, BC, MB, NB, NL, NS, NT, NU, ON, PE, QC, SK, YT) and an International one, so the right GST/HST/PST/QST combination is applied by customer province.
- Cheque printing in three North American pre-printed layouts: check on top (Quicken/QuickBooks standard), check in the middle (Peachtree standard), check on the bottom (ADP standard).
- CPA005 EFT file generation for electronic funds transfer payments.
- Balance sheet, profit and loss and cash flow statement reports via l10n_ca_reports.
- Payroll, all of it. Canada does not appear in Odoo 19's list of supported payroll localizations, so CPP and the second additional CPP tier, EI, federal and provincial tax tables, T4 and T4A slips and the ROE need a third-party app from the Odoo apps store or a custom build.
- GIFI. The Canadian localisation documentation does not mention GIFI codes, so the mapping from your chart of accounts to schedules 100 and 125 is your job.
- Interac. No Odoo payment provider ships for Interac Debit or Interac e-Transfer, so account-to-account collection and reconciliation is a build.
- Quebec WEB-SRM. No Odoo module is documented for the certified sales recording system, so a Quebec restaurant or bar POS deployment needs a certified integration built and attested.

How we run the work
5 stages, the same in every market: Assessment, First test conversion, Functional validation, Rehearsal, Cutover and stabilisation. The method does not change by country, so it is written up once rather than repeated here.
The integrations this market usually needs
Badged by what it takes in Odoo. Anything not marked In Odoo is a paid connector or a build, and that is the part quotes usually miss.
Questions we get asked
- Can you upgrade us from an old Odoo version?
- Yes. The migration service covers the database, the custom modules, attachments and historical transactions, with a test environment for sign-off before cutover. Older versions take longer because more standard behaviour changed on the way, and because third-party modules are less likely to have a successor.
- Will we lose data?
- No. Conversions run on copies, the original is untouched until cutover, and a full pre-conversion backup is the rollback point. What does happen is that data which was already inconsistent becomes visible, because conversion is stricter than daily use.
- Does Odoo have an official localization for Canada?
- Yes. Odoo ships 5 native items for Canada, covering the basics of the chart of accounts and statutory setup. 4 areas are still outside that localization and get built or bought separately.
- Is e-invoicing mandatory in Canada?
- Canada has no B2B or B2C e-invoicing mandate as of 2026-08-22, and a PDF invoice is still legally fine. E-invoicing only bites in federal procurement and in two Quebec sectors. The Canada e-invoicing page carries the full detail and the sources.
- What VAT or sales tax does Odoo have to handle in Canada?
- GST is 5%. In HST provinces a single combined tax applies instead: 13% in Ontario, 15% in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island, and 14% in Nova Scotia.
- Do you work with businesses in Toronto and other parts of Canada?
- Yes. An Odoo migration or upgrade runs remotely by default, and being based in one city inside Canada does not change the plan or the price. Cities we cover for on-site visits: Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton. Regions we cover: Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, Alberta. We travel on-site for discovery workshops and go-live week when the engagement calls for it.
