A document manager built on ir.attachment rather than beside it. Files stay attachments, so the filestore, the download route and everything else in Odoo that already knows about attachments keeps working. What this adds is the part Odoo Community has never had: folders that carry real access rights, and a version history.
Folder permissions that hold
- โ Every folder carries three group lists: who may read, who may add and change, and who may configure the folder
- โ Those lists are enforced by global record rules on the documents, on the versions and on the folder itself, not by hiding buttons
- โ The stored file points back at its document, so the download url answers to the same rules as the form. A user outside the folder gets nothing, whichever way they ask
- โ Manage includes write, write includes read, and the Documents administrator group is kept on every restricted folder, so a folder can never be left with nobody able to open it
- โ A child folder can take its parent access, so a tree can be secured at the top
Versions
- โ Uploading over a file keeps the old one as a numbered version, with who did it and why
- โ Restore puts an old version back and pushes the file that was live into a new version, so a restore can itself be undone
- โ Every version owns its own copy of the file, so history cannot be rewritten by replacing the live one
- โ Documents can be locked while somebody works on them, and an administrator can force a lock open
Upload requests
- โ Ask a customer, a supplier or a candidate for a file. They get a link with a token in it and need no account, no password and no portal invitation
- โ What they upload lands in the folder and with the tags named on the request, already filed
- โ Size limit and accepted file types are set per request, and executable file types are refused whatever the request says
- โ A scheduled action chases them on a schedule you set, and closes the link when the deadline passes
PDF split and merge
- โ Split a scanned batch into separate documents by page range. The range reads the way you would write it: 1-3,7,9- takes pages one to three, page seven, and everything from page nine on
- โ Merge several documents into one, in the order you drag them, with a bookmark at the start of each source file
- โ Uses pypdf, which Odoo already installs
Everyday things
- โ Tags in categories, expiry dates with a daily check, ownership, contact links and a link back to any record in Odoo
- โ Existing attachments anywhere in the database can be filed into a folder in bulk, keeping the original where it is
- โ A printable folder index
- โ Standard list, form, kanban, calendar and pivot views. No JavaScript, so nothing to break on upgrade
- โ Needs only mail and portal.
