Guests book a table on your own website and the table is held for them. The booking engine decides what is free, what can be pushed together and how many covers the kitchen will take at once, so the floor plan is worked out before the guest has finished typing their name.
The dining room
- โ Zones for the main floor, the terrace, a private room, the bar
- โ Tables with seats, shape and a smallest-party setting
- โ Tables that can be pushed together, and tables that cannot, such as a booth or a bar counter
- โ Zones can be tied to the till that rings up the bills for that part of the room
Sittings
- โ A sitting is lunch, or early dinner, or late dinner
- โ Opening hours, the days of the week it runs, and the restaurant's own timezone, so a booking made from abroad lands at the right time on the floor
- โ How far apart the times offered are, how long a table is held, and the turnaround between two parties on the same table
- โ A cap on covers per slot, which paces the kitchen rather than the room
- โ Notice period, how far ahead bookings open, and whether they confirm themselves
The engine
- โ Works out which tables are free for the whole sitting, not just at the moment the guest arrives
- โ Takes the smallest table that fits, so the large tables stay open for the parties that need them
- โ Combines two or more small tables for a large party, always inside one zone, and always the set that wastes the fewest seats
- โ Counts the covers already arriving in the same slot against the kitchen cap
- โ Holds the sitting for the length of the write, so two guests clicking the last table at the same instant cannot both be told yes
- โ Backs all of it with a record-level check that no table is ever held by two live parties at once, whether the booking comes from the website, the wizard, an import or the shell
The website
- โ Server-rendered booking pages: a date strip, a party size, and the times that are actually free
- โ A plain form post. No javascript to fail on a phone in a car park
- โ A confirmation email with the booking reference
- โ A reminder email before the table is due, on a schedule you set per sitting
- โ A tokenised page where the guest can look at their booking and give the table back, without an account
On the floor
- โ List, kanban, calendar, pivot and graph views of the book
- โ A today view that opens on tonight's parties in the order they are due
- โ Availability check for the host on the phone, which takes the booking without leaving the dialog
- โ Confirm, seat, no show and cancel with a reason, all tracked in the chatter
