Tax rules that shape an Odoo configuration in Bangladesh
Each item below is one thing the tax setup has to get right before go-live.
- 1
The standard VAT rate is 15%. Reduced rates of 1.5%, 2%, 2.4%, 4.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10% apply to specified goods and services under the Second Schedule of the VAT and SD Act 2012.
- 2
Supplementary Duty applies to Third Schedule goods and services from 10% to 67%, and in certain cases up to 500%. It is payable only at the first stage of supply, which means the ERP has to model it separately from VAT rather than as another tax line on every sale.
- 3
The VAT return is Mushak 9.1, filed monthly and due within 15 days of the end of the tax period. Government, semi-government and autonomous bodies, banks, insurers and anyone filing a nil return get up to 20 days.

- 4
Manual VAT return filing is completely dispensed with from 1 July 2026. Returns go through the NBR VAT online portal.
- 5
VAT deducted at source applies. Specified withholding entities deduct VAT on certain service procurements at 2% to 15% depending on the service. This has to be posted against the supplier bill, not netted off later.
- 6
Income tax withholding on local payments hits most supplier bills: 5% on manufacturing, process, conversion, construction and engineering work. Withholding on supplies of goods is not a single rate, it runs from 0.5% to 10% depending on the goods, so it has to be mapped per product category.
The reporting framework your Bangladesh books sit inside
What your statements have to comply with, and what that means for the chart of accounts.
- 1
Companies whose securities trade in a public market, and other large publicly accountable entities, must use IFRS as adopted in Bangladesh, issued locally as Bangladesh Financial Reporting Standards (BFRS). The Financial Reporting Act 2015 gives the Financial Reporting Council the power to set and issue those standards in conformity with IASB standards.
- 2
Audit reports signed by ICAB practising members carry a Document Verification Code, a unique code issued by ICAB's Document Verification System that lets a regulator check the report online. BSEC-listed companies, microfinance institutions, NGOs taking donor funding and companies seeking investment registration all need DVC-carrying reports.

Odoo's Bangladesh localization ships a chart of accounts, taxes and a tax report only. There is no Mushak register, no Mushak 9.1 report and no audit file export in the official module.
Checked Localization notes on this page checked on 22 August 2026.
Rates, formats, thresholds and submission windows change. We configure against the rules in force at build time and confirm every figure with your accountant or tax advisor before sign-off. If a rule moves after go-live, it is a support ticket, not a rebuild. Read more on our Odoo localization service.
How we build accounting and tax for Bangladesh
The delivery method behind the list above. The same four steps on a 10-user rollout and on a multi-company programme, with the depth scaled to the scope.
- 1 Chart of accounts from your accountant. We configure against the mapping your accountant signs, not a default template someone picked in the install wizard.
- 2 Every tax gets a test document. An invoice, a credit note and a period report per tax, checked against a figure your accountant produced independently.
- 3 Opening balances reconcile. Prior-period data is loaded and tied back to your last filed set of accounts before anyone posts a live transaction.
- 4 Filing outputs come out of Odoo. Reports are produced from the system, checked line by line, then handed over with a written procedure so your team runs them without us.
What we need from you to quote it
Bring these to the first call and you get a scoped, priced accounting and tax plan for Bangladesh instead of a range.
- โ Your current chart of accounts and the tax codes in use today.
- โ The last filed set of accounts and the last filed return.
- โ The name of the accountant or tax advisor who signs off the configuration.
